Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE)
RSE is a mandatory requirement in the Curriculum for Wales for all learners from age 3 to 16. This means that all learners must receive this education.
RSE is a positive and protective part of the Curriculum for Wales . It plays a central role in supporting learners to enjoy fulfilling, healthy and safe relationships throughout their lives.
Please see the videos below to find out more information about RSE in school.
What is Relationships and Sexuality Education?
Relationships and sexuality education (RSE) is an innovative part of the new #CurriculumForWales. All learning provided under RSE will be appropriate to the age and developmental stage of the learner. Every year group will be engaged differently, and only ever in ways suitable for their age and understanding - for example, for younger learners this will simply mean talking about self-esteem and how to communicate feelings.
What will primary children be taught?
The aim is to gradually build learners knowledge, skills and values as they develop emphasising the social and emotional aspects of relationships. Education about relationships in early development should focus on the building of self-esteem by encouraging learners to value themselves; recognise and communicate their feelings and form friendships.
