Autumn Term Welcome Letter 2018

Cariad Defibrillator Training

On Tuesday 22nd May, Year 6 took part in a very important training sessions. Simon and his colleagues from Cariad taught us what to do if we find someone injured and not breathing. The pupils all listened very carefully, asked sensible questions and completed the training. Mrs Smith was very proud of how all the pupils behaved in the session and Simon told us that we were the best class he has ever trained.

If you would like more information about Cariad Defibrillator Training - contact Cariad via their twitter page

Spectrum

Healthy Relationships

Year 6 have worked with Siân from Spectrum this half term. We have had three informative sessions discussing healthy relationships and domestic violence. The pupils have taken part in discussions, team activities  and games.

During our final session with Siân, on Monday 21st May, we thought about where we feel safe, and how we feel in that place. For example - I feel safe in my bedroom and I feel happy. We then wrote our safe place and feelings on post it notes, placed them on a jingo block and built a safety zone tower.

'The Spectrum Project is an all Wales programme funded by the Welsh Government and delivered by experienced teachers in primary and secondary schools. The free, bilingual, workshops are closely linked to the curriculum and promote the importance of healthy relationships whilst raising the awareness of children, young people and adults about the issues of domestic abuse.' - Spectrumproject website

Oxwich Bay - 18th May 2018

We visited St Illtyd's church to learn more about the features of a church. We also discovered that an unknown sailor, from World War 1 is buried in the church grounds. It was lots of fun and we were even allowed to ring the church bells!

Then we used our map to walk through the quiet village. Using the map, we could identify the old school, the post office and found where the blacksmiths used to be.

After lunch, some of us played on the beach and others went to explore the rock pools. The sun shone for us all day!

Tŷ Borfa

March 2018

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their residential experience at Tŷ Borfa. The pupils had three fun filled days of activities, which included; beach walks, rock climbing, abseiling, exploring caves and orienteering. A big 'Thank you' to Gower Activity Centres and staff that attended the residential, for providing the pupils with memories they will treasure!

We loved our walk to Culver Hole.
