Eco Warriors

Our fabulous ECO and School council team!

These fabulous individuals were voted by their class friends to represent our school. We meet every few weeks to discuss ongoing issues, celebrations and any important tasks set by Mrs Lecrass and the governors.

Our fabulous ECO team have been working hard completing our environmental review. We have come up with targets for the school and will be informing everyone in this weeks assembly targets.

Swap shop

Last Thursday of every month from Miss Bacons class, lots of uniform on offer, all in excellent condition. All we request is a 'swap' or small donation. Please speak to your class teacher if you would like more information.

The juniors were set a mission by Ed the Eco dragon to create a new Eco code, rap, rhyme or song. After having all of them in the Eco ambassadors sat together and judged the winning entry. Which was Lexi in Y5/6S.

Our amazing ambassadors run the Swop She stall in our Autumn fayre. We managed to recycle lots of old uniform. We have lots of plans for the future to hold more events and more regular drop ins to swop uniforms. Keep your eyes peeled.

Nexus Recylable Glue

Today we met with Leah, who taught us about reduce, reuse and recycle and gave us brand new glue sticks. We have been set a task to teach the whole school about reusing them and saving lots of money and waste.

Dosbarth Horton and Pwll du have been linking closely to the curriculum of Eco Schools. They have been exploring our local communities and learning about the wildlife, trees and plants in Penllergare woods.

Nigel from trees for change visited Dosbarth Langland, Caswell and Llangenith. We learnt lots about how we affect and can help the rainforest deforestation.

Our Year Six ambassadors will soon be setting a whole school challenge. Keep your eyes peeled to find out what it is...

We are pleased to announce our Year 6 Eco Ambassadors this year. The pupils will be leading Eco throughout the school and supporting the school council. Scroll down to see what they have been up to.

Our Eco home school challenge

Can you complete our Eco challenges and send to your class teacher on dojo or put on twitter under the #EcoSchoolsatHome

Our Year 6 Eco ambassadors are:

                Chloe                       Kamil                     Kegan

They have a very important job of ensuring all classes are being Eco friendly whilst monitoring all week before giving out Ed the Eco dragon award to the winning class.

We wanted to do our bit for the planet and decided to set a whole school homework to collect as many plastic bottles and fill them with single use plastic. Which ever class collects the most wins a trip to the park. We will be putting empty bottles in the dinner hall for children to fill during lunchtime.

ECO GLOBAL COMPETITION

Our fabulous Year 6's entered the GLOBAL ECO Competition. The children had to think about if they were the Prime minister or a Superhero what would they do..

#Big Battery Hunt

WOW what an Amazing effort from the WHOLE school contributing to bringing in old batteries. Our VIP's have been counting at lunchtimes and our grand total is 3647!!!

Huge thank you to everyones who sent in their batteries for recycling!

The Big Pedal

Our VIP's signed up to Big Pedal. We spread the word the whole school and tracked how everyone got to school. We could track our data online and compare it to school in Swansea, Wales and across the whole of the United Kingdom. We were amazed when we looked at our data.

Today we met for a very important meeting!

We discussed our brand new eco targets and our action plan for the next year! We are very excited to get started.

We will be working on:

  • Improving litter around the school and our wider community
  • Improving Global Citizenship
  • Encouraging recycling and condense the amount we need in school
  • To have a greater understanding of mental health and well being
  • Reduce the amount of energy wasted in school
  • Continue being a rights respecting school
  • Continue being a healthy school

Homework for the juniors this week is to make a brand new Eco Code for this year! Last year our winner was Natalia and the code was placed on display and each class learnt it.

Infants will be asked to design our own Eco Badge. Last year Vanessa was our winner, where her fantastic badge was placed on our Eco and School Council board.

This year is just as important as we will be going for our Silver Flag award. There will be prizes for our winners.

School Council will judge entries On Monday 23rd October.

Good Luck

Rags to Riches

9th October 2018

We would like to thank everyone who donated a bag of unwanted clothes to our 'Rags to Riches' event. We worked really hard to keep track of how many bags were being donated over the two weeks. Every break time, we checked and counted the bags.

Our target was to collect 20 bags!!

On Tuesday 9th October, the Rag to Riches van arrived and we had to count and carry the bags to the van! We were so surprised when we counted

over 90 bags!!

We have raised £215 for the eco / school council fund and will be investing the money in litter pickers and new bins to help us achieve our new action plan targets for 2018-19.

Thank You again to EVERYONE who helped us not only reach our target but exceed the target!!

Our Action Plan 2018-2019

Achieving the Green Flag!

Last June, our Eco Warriors, met with Matt Bunt from the Eco School Wales team to show him all the hard work we have been doing in Blaenymaes. Matt was so impressed he awarded us with the Green Flag! On February 9th 2018, we were very privileged to receive a visit from Iolo Williams (TV presenter) to help us celebrate our achievement.
