Language, Literacy and Communication

For this week, we would like you to think back to World Book Day last week and choose a book you enjoyed.

 

-Choose your favourite character from the book and write a character description using the template in J2E shared files. There are some descriptive words (adjectives) to help you. Send us your work via dojo.

 

-We would like you to write a review on your favourite book and try to explain why you enjoyed reading it. Have a look in shared files on J2E and there is a sheet to help you plan your review.

-You need to include the title, illustrator and author. You could include some of the main events and give it a star rating.

-For Time this week, the theme is telling the time in 5-minute intervals. We have uploaded some activities on to J2e for you to complete.

-We have also uploaded a one-minute time yourself challenge and a time board game to play with your family.

Language, Literacy and Communication

For St David’s day this year, there are a number of competitions that we would like you to enter.

 

Competition 1 – Write a story

For this competition, we would like you to write a story that has the title ‘The day I met a Dragon.’

Remember to include lots of describing words and capital letters and full stops. You could write your story on a piece of paper and send us a photo of your work. Use the story mountain guide posted on j2e and Dojo to help you write your story.

Competition 2 – Handwriting

For this competition, we would like you to write out the poemDaffodils’ in your best handwriting. Send us a photo of your entry on ClassDojo.

 

ALL entries must be submitted by 11am on Monday 1st March – winners will be announced in the afternoon!

Competition 1 – Welsh Art

For this competition, we would like to you create a piece of art that has a Welsh theme to it. You can use pencils, felt pens, paints, collage materials, media or outdoor materials.

Competition 2 – Creative challenge

For this competition, can you dress a leek to look like your favourite celebrity / singer or favourite Welsh icon e.g Tom Jones, Swans players, Welsh football / rugby players. Send your photos via dojo!

ALL entries must be submitted by 11am on Monday 1st March – winners will be announced in the afternoon!

Language, Literacy and Communication

1. This week we would like you to revise nouns, adjectives and verbs. Using the sheet in J2E shared files and on the school website, write the words in the correct column.

 

-Remember a noun is a naming word, an adjective is a describing word, and a verb is a doing word.

 

2. Next, we would like you to write your own sentences including some interesting adjectives and verbs e.g. ‘The beautiful princess wished she could meet a brave, handsome prince.’

-You could record your sentences in J2write or on paper.

 

3. We would also like you to write your recipe for love (see shared files on J2e) and send a photo on dojo. Think of words that could be linked to love e.g., kindness, caring and respect. You could record on paper or on J2Write.

 

 

 

 

 

Welsh - Weather

  • We would like you to revise writing the weather in Welsh. In the shared files on J2E, there is a weather recording sheet for next week. The sentence pattern you will need to practice is found on the recording sheet.   

 

  • The pattern to practice is ‘Mae hi’n heulog = It is sunny. You could try writing sentences using two types of weather:

Mae hi’n heulog ac oer = It is sunny and cold.

 

Pupil Choice Activities

Here are the pupil choice activities for this week, suggested by the children in last week’s check in sessions.

 

1. Cooking – One suggestion we had was to do a bit of cooking! As it is Chinese New Year this week, we have uploaded instructions for how to make Dragon Cookies to the folder ‘Week 6’ on J2e and the class page on the school website. Remember to send us a photo of any cooking you do at home!

 

2. Animal research – Another idea suggested by the children was to do some research on animals. You could choose to research facts about your favourite animal and write them down on paper or the J2write app on J2e!

-You could also research facts about the animal chosen to represent Chinese New Year 2021.  

 

Health and Wellbeing

1. 21-day fitness challenge.

-Last week Year 3/4 started the ‘21-day fitness challenge.’ There was a different activity each day for you to attempt and record your score.

 

-There are new activities to have a go at this week. Remember your scores could contribute to Blaenymaes primary winning some really cool sports prizes! More information will be posted onto ClassDojo.

1. Making sure you have enough space outside; can you create your own 10-minute workout.  Remember to include a warmup and cool down, just like we do when at school.

2. In your garden you could create a bug/insect hotel, using any leaves, grass or twigs etc you can find.  Take a photo and share via hwb or dojo.   

 

Home Learning: 1-5th February - Year 3/4 

 

Language, Literacy and Communication – National Storytelling week

This week it is National Story telling Week. Here are a few activities for you to try. We have uploaded some activities to J2e and the school website class page.

  • Think of a villain in a story e.g., Mr/Mrs Twit or the wolf in the story of Red Riding Hood. Use the vocab prompt sheet to create a ‘wanted’ poster to describe your character. You can use J2e to write or create a paper poster and send a photo via ClassDojo.
  • Have a go at the story telling dice game. Roll the dice to create your setting/good/bad characters and include the prop in the story. You could play this game with your family.
  • Use the story telling prompt cards in the shared files to make up your own story. Remember to create a setting and a plot as well as an exciting ending!

Create your own reading ‘den’ in the house and perhaps you could share your stories after building your den. You could send us some photos on Dojo!

  • Write a story set in Space – Who is the main character? What planet does it take place on? Write your ideas on paper or use J2E to type up your work.

 

Health and Well-being – Children’s Mental Health Week

The theme this year is ‘Express Yourself’. Here are some activities that can have a go at;

21-Day Fitness Challenge

Year 3/4 have been chosen to represent the school in a 21-day fitness challenge. Each day this week there is a different activity that the children can have a go at. Following each activity, they can score themselves to possibly win some prizes for the school.

Pupil Choice Activity

 

This week’s pupil choice activity involves researching your favourite flag in the world. You could write your findings on paper or use J2E apps such as ‘J2write’ to record your work. Some ideas;

 

  • Create a fact file about the country it belongs to. What continent does the country belong to? Why is it your favourite flag? Is it colourful?
  • Can you sketch an image of the flag?
  • Design your own flag for a new country or maybe for Blaenymaes Primary.
  •  

Another pupil choice suggestion was to do some painting or something really colourful, so you could use this idea when designing your own country flag! Make sure to send us images of your work on ClassDojo!

 

Outdoor Activities – Bird Watch

At the end of this week, the RSPB have their annual winter garden birdwatch survey.

 

  • We would like you to use the templates in the ‘shared files’ on J2E to identify and create some fact files on the birds you can see in your garden.

 

  • There are some instructions on how to make a birdfeeder using yogurt pots to provide food for the birds in this cold weather. They can be found on J2E in ‘shared files’ and on the school website class page.

-Try to make it as exciting as possible and you could perhaps include some similes to describe what he could see (as _____ as a ________).

This week it is ‘World Religion Day.’ I have uploaded some activities on J2E that you can access by logging into hwb, selecting ‘Just2easy’, followed by ‘shared files’. The activities will be in the folder ‘week 3’ in the class folder.

1. Using the link above, you could create a factfile about one or more religions and explain what their main beliefs are.

2. In class, we were learning about ‘Recount writing.’ Can you write a diary entry? It could be about yesterday, the last week or even the Christmas holidays! Remember to include some interesting wow words!

Happy New Year to you all! Unfortunately we are not able to be in school at the moment, so we have put together a menu of activities for you to have a go at this week. -Using the websites Sumdog and Hwb, the children can practice different maths skills through a number of activities.
