Animal Safari

We started our topic reading the story Ava's Destiny, about an Osprey who found a magic nest which turned her into part human, part bird.

We made predictions about what would happen to Ava next. Where would she go? Who would she see?

We then had a trip to Llanelli Wetlands Centre where we found Ava in her magic nest. She told us about the nature challenges we could do to become Guardians of the Wild.

We did some nature challenges at the Wetlands including bug hunting, making a home for a minibeast, pond dipping, watching birds from a hide with our binoculars and seeing some fabulous birds!

When we came back to class, we talked about what we would like to learn.

We read a story called Lucky Duck and discovered how birds looked different and all have different talents, just like us!!

We made bird feeders to put in our forest area to help the birds in the cold weather.

We went bird spotting in our school grounds and saw lots of different birds.

We made some cool paper plate rocking birds.

We went outside with Mrs. Welsh to talk about nests and collected materials to make a nest for Ava and the birds.

We read 'Betsy Buglove Saves the Bees' It helped us to think about how important bees and insects are to nature. We learnt that we don't need to be scared of insects but instead we can look after them so that nature can thrive.

We had a challenge in class to follow the instructions to make different insects using playdough.

We designed flowers to attract bees.
