Rumble in the Jungle 18.1.21 - 22.1.21

Home learning introduction

6.1.21 - 15.1.21

Hello and happy new year!  This is not the start of 2021 we would have liked to have but we have to work together to teach our children and make learning less stressful. We have put together some activities both online but also some which will give you the opportunity to have some fun with your children.

Please send photos through to us on Class Dojo, where the children will receive points for the work completed, children with the most points will receive a small prize from the box when we are back in school.

Children might feel anxious during this time and it is important that we help them recognise those feelings and help them to think of ways to express them. Below are some resources that will support you at home to build resilience and strategies for reducing anxiety.

1.Explantion of anxiety, ‘The Guard Dog and the Owl’: Cosmic Kids Zen Den:

2. Be the Pond: A short meditation for young children to help manage

Can you with your own bird feeder? There are plenty of ways you could do this you may like to follow these steps that you may find out your back garden

  1. Gather up a few pine cones from your yard and tie strings to the top of them. ...
  2. Using a butter knife, have your spread ; peanut butter or cooking lard all over the surface of the pine cone.
  3. Roll the pine cone through a bowl of birdseed.

Below are some you could follow.

Make play dough

1. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl mix together the water, a few drops of food colouring and the oil.

2. Pour the coloured water into the flour mix and bring together with a spoon.

3. Dust a work surface with a little flour and turn out the dough. Knead together for a few minutes to form a smooth, pliable dough. If you want a more intense colour you can work in a few extra drops of food colouring.

4. Store in a plastic sandwich bag (squeeze out the air) in the fridge to keep it fresh.

Can you think of something that you would like to do or get better at in the year 2021? Can you draw around your hand on a piece of paper or card, cut it out and write a simple sentence explaining what you want to do in 2021.

Make your own Joe Wicks style P.E routine

Can you make a challenging Joe Wicks workout to be done at home and share with the rest of the class? Think about what exercises you can do and for how long. Can you think of any other exercises that we could differently? What about different animal movements, cosmic yoga stretches or some routines from Just Dance? Here are some ideas for you to use.

Outdoor Art Collage

Can you make a collage using outdoor materials that you can find around your home? Take a picture and send it back to me on dojo.

Rainbow Toast

Paint your piece of bread with milk and food colouring and then pop your bread into the toaster for an arty breakfast. Make sure a grown-up is in charge of making toast, and let the little ones go wild with their colourful designs. You could even use a paper template for a really complicated pattern!

Outdoor Snap

Gather a small collection of items from the local environment, this could be out in your garden or if you go for a walk see what you can find.  Things like feathers, pine cones, pebbles and leaves.

Your child’s challenge is to search the area for the same objects, and then come back to see how many they’ve managed to collect.

This game will help them develop their memory and observation skills.
